Kia Motors January sales up 3.3%

Kia Motors global sales for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles increased 3.3% to 185,284 units in January 2012, compared to corresponding period last year.

In January 2012, sales in North America increased by 27.4% to 39,291 units and Europe sales were up by 33.2% to 35,852 units.

Kia Motors posted the C-segment Cerato sales of 25,489 units for January 2012, the B-segment Rio and Sorento mid-size CUV follow with 32,288 and 14,473 units sold, respectively.

The company said that the Sportage compact CUV sales were 24,647 units for January 2012, while the D-segment Optima sedan reported sales of 15,459 units.

Kia Motors senior executive vice president and COO Tae-Hyun (Thomas) Oh said this was the company's higheglobal January sales ever and it is particularly pleased to see Europe perform so well.

"We expect our momentum there to continue due to the successful December launch of all-new Optima, which was highly anticipated by European customers, and our upcoming EURO 2012 sponsorship," Oh said.
